Camping Breakfast

My very favourite part of camping is making a big breakfast!  The real-deal-scrambled-eggs-with-sausage-and-toast-breakfast.  We had a few of these breakfasts during the week that we were camping in the Northern parts of South Africa.

Usually the morning starts with sleepy people slowly emerging from their tents with messy hair.  There is already a pot of fresh coffee waiting that an early-riser made. And there is always an early riser in every group, isn’t there?  That one person that gets up before the rest of the group and makes you feel a little bit jealous that they got to see the first magical moments of the morning while you were still snoring away.

Once we all wake up (with the help of a cup of joe of course), the big teamwork for the big breakfast begins!  That’s another thing that I love about camping – everyone jumps in to do a job, and breakfast is a team effort.

One person is cutting onions for frying up, another is prepping the scrambled eggs, another is making fruit salad, while yet another is making toast.

One of the keys to making a camping breakfast a success is having all the right tools for every job.  And if you don’t have the right tool, you improvise – like my uncle’s fancy apron made out of a tea towel and some clothespins.  Problem solved!

Time to dig in!

Our bellies are full and happy and we are ready for the big day of game drives laying ahead.  With this super breakfast of champions, we won’t be hungry again for a while – at least until afternoon snack time!

Only thing left is,  who’s doing the dishes??

I was going to have toast this morning. I think I’m going to have to pull out eggs and bacon with that now!

Thanks – I think the apron’s pretty cute too! And I never would have thought of that myself.
