For the love of Forsythia

Spring has sprung in my house!

This is the happy scene that greets me when I walk in the door – and it makes me feel good to be home.

I have a very deep love for Forsythia. Well, I have a very deep love for all kinds of skinny branches with little flowers really. But there is just something so happy about the pretty little Forsythia flowers! To me they announce that spring is here!

Now, if only they had a different name though, because For-syth-ia is so darn hard to say ten times fast! Around here I refer to them as “yellow flower branches”…

And my do they stand tall! Putting a bunch of branches in a tall vase creates such a presence that begs for your attention.

There are a lot of homes in my neighbourhood with Forsythia bushes – lucky ducks! They look so beautiful, with a rich, bright yellow glow. So I’m kinda jealous because I had to pay $9 for my few branches. The first year that I bought these Derek had to point out that I had just paid money for a bunch of sticks (as he calls them). But I think they are worth all 900 pennies!

So my next question is of course: Any friends out there who will let me prune their Forsythia bush for free?

Have a glorious day y’all!

Why is your house so stinking pretty and mine looks like I’m still a student?!?!?

Love your photos, I am going to buy my Forsythia bush this Saturday, hopefully to have my own in a vase next year. Thanks for the inspiration!

Nice! I guess I never thought of actually buying a bush myself – I bet that can save me some money over the years!

I love Forsythia bush! I actually had no idea what was its name – I used to call it a pretty yellow bush. :-) Our neighbour has quite a few in his garden and gives me a few branches now and again.

Hey Vee – lucky for you that he gives it to you for free! I think we need to unite and change the name, don’t you agree?

Beautiful photos. The Forsythia maybe available in South Africa – don’t know, but have to visit a plant ranch to find out.

Thanks Coleen – I really hope you find it in SA because it is so pretty. They only have flowers in the spring though….

Your blog is like a breath of fresh air! Love the name, the header, and all the gorgeous photos. I’ve had fun looking around this morning.

I was just telling my husband that we need to plant a forsythia bush for next spring. I love the look of the cheerful yellow branches! :-)
