Sunny Gerbera Daisies

When I was a kid my dad traveled for work quite a bit.  Sometimes for a few days, and sometimes for weeks on end.  You also need to know that my mother has an incredible touch for creating a home.  Seriously, when you walk into her house it feels like you are walking into a hug!  She has a gift for using what she has and she loves to use 1 item for many different purposes.  So every time my dad went away my mom got busy working on her nest – changing rooms around, painting, etc.  It became a running joke whenever my dad went away that he would find the house looking different when he came back!

I think I inherited this need to change things around in my house.  The reality is that I can only change things up to a certain extend without having to buy anything new.  It is actually pretty fun to use what I have in my home and move items around from room to room – sorta like a challenge to see what looks I can create!

You may remember a few weeks ago I had beautiful forsythia in a tall vase gracing my front entrance.  The forsythia branches lasted about 2 weeks before all the flowers fell off and they were done.  But a home is not a home without flowers, so now it is the sunny Gerbera Daisy’s turn!

I created my own little vases by repurposing a few juice bottles.  Once we finished drinking the yummy grapefruit juice that was in it (yum….) I soaked the bottles in warm soapy water to take the labels off.

For the little bubbles I bought puffy paint at my local art store (it is also called ‘writers paint’) and played around with different patterns on the bottles.  After the puffy paint had some time to dry, I coated each bottle with white spray paint.  I wanted to put on a second coat of spray paint the next day, but the first layer started to bubble a bit, so I just stopped.  Overall I’m still pretty happy with my little bottles!

It’s probably worth mentioning that my dad is in South Africa visiting his parents right now – so Mom, are you planning on changing anything up this time? Hehe!

So there you have Take # 2 of my front entrance….. I’m pretty sure there will be many more ‘takes’ to come!

Also: HAPPY BIRTHDAY  to Derek!  I can’t wait to go out for some Sapporo and Schnitzel with you after work tonight!

These bottles look great! From the pictures no one could guess that they were juice bottles. They look like something you would buy in a home decor store. I love the photo where you are looking at the flowers from above, so pretty.
