Epic Adventures in British Columbia

2010 August 10
by Revel!

Derek and I just got back from playing around British Columbia with his brother and girlfriend for eight days. Sad when family live far away – but happy when you have a fun place to visit!  Here’s a photo journal of our time – gosh, just looking these pics make me wanna pack my bags again (oh wait, I’m not done unpacking yet…). Wanderlust is a fantastic thing!

Barbecue in Kitts Beach, Vancouver…

…posing with OLD AND HUGE trees on Vancouver Island…

…chillaxing on the patio in Tofino to take in the view after a long day…

…going for leisurely walks on the beach…

…isn’t this just the perfect setup that these people had?  Wetsuits and booties: check. Coffee: check….

… watching kids play in the waves as the sun set…

…having amazingly fresh sushi…

…a foggy morning that allows the girls to go on a photo-taking and tea drinking mission while the boys surf in the cold…

…resulting in some cool pictures…

…back on mainland BC, hiking to the camp site with your tent, food, sleeping bag, etc on your back…

…only to be rewarded with these MAGNIFICENT views…

…being classy and chilling a bag of Chardonnay from a box in the glacier water… and tying a rope around it so that it doesn’t float away…

… more hiking and more MAGNIFICENT views offered as reward…

…brotherly snowball fights on the mountain…

…skiing down the mountain in shoes and with hiking poles…

…pointing to our campsite – can you see the little yellow and blue tents way down below on the little inlet by the lake?? So cool…

… sleeping at the foot of a glacier…. and praying at night that there won’t be an avalanche…

…out-housing… oh the joy…

… our very gracious hosts!  Thanks for showing us a crazy great time!  We love you guys soooo much!

Disclaimer!! not included: us surfing… SURFING!!, going back to “Shelter” in Tofino for food and drinks 3 times in a row, fireworks in Vancouver on 3 different nights, 4 people hunched over in a little tent playing Euchre as an escape from the bugs, the inevitable bug bites, emergency helicopter swooping in to rescue some dude off the glacier, missing 3 ferries out of Nanaimo, and, and, and…

AHHH I love Lake Garibaldi! Isn’t it absolutely stunning? My boyfriend and I have been up there during the summer, but it’s also amazing in the winter. So incredibly winter-wonderland-like and gorgeous.

I live in Vancouver and am so glad you got to come and explore our beautiful city and the surrounding areas.

Looks like it was a wonderful trip.

Omigoodness, GORGEOUS photos. Isn’t B.C. amazing? I LOVE living here :) I live a little further north in Kamloops, but still only a few hours drive to the coast or to the Okanagan or the mountains!

Where were you camping in the mountains at? Looks amazing!

Hey Amber – lucky you for living in BC! The lake photos are at Joffre Lakes, just north of Pemberton/Mount Currie.

Hey Nienke! I just found your blog and am loving all your pictures and reading of your adventures. I went to Vancouver Island a few years ago and absolutely loved it. I’m showing my husband these pictures and insisting we go back to BC. (We live outside of Chicago.) Beautiful photos! I’m sure you’ve been asked a million times, but what kind of camera do you use? Thanks!
