Diaries of the Huge Eiffel Tower Dilemma – Part I

I always dreamt of living in a cool loft some day.  You know the type you see in the movies?  Tall ceilings, exposed brick, huge windows, wood beams – that kind.  3 Years ago that dream came true for me, albeit a mini version of the dream!  Derek and I bought a teeny tiny bachelor-style loft in downtown Toronto and I was on cloud 9!  I remember the moment we saw it we knew it was worth giving up the extra square footage if it meant that we could come home to such a great space every day! This charm was only added to by the daily aroma of fresh croissants being baked at the coffee shop below us at 7am! (As a side note, if you talked to us 2 years later we would both tell you that we couldn’t handle the lack of space or bedroom door or the fact that you had to climb over the bed to get to the closet any longer ……)

With our  huge, white, 11ft walls came a decorating challenge of its own.  Normal sized pictures looked terribly dinky on the scale of the large empty wall, and I knew that I wanted to make a statement with a BIG print!  Enter the Premiar print from Ikea:

{pardon the crappy photo quality}

So I have never been to Paris and I have never seen the Eiffel tower – but I have a slight obsession with it.  I love bold and graphic prints and shapes – and la tour Eiffel definitely fall into these categories.  And as a result I have a HUGE print of it as well as a few little statues all over my house .  Derek finds it a little embarrassing and warns me not to put all of them in the same room at the risk of looking like the crazy-eiffel-tower-lady!  Don’t worry, my collection hasn’t crossed over to the tacky side!

This picture may give you a better idea of the scale of the print ( 55″ x 78-3/4″)

Last year we sold the beloved little loft and moved into our house (a year ago next week – that’s just nuts!!) and we had the opposite problem all of a sudden.  We have this giant of an Eiffel tower print and normal ceiling height.  WHERE do we put this thing now???

Answer coming up next…

    I love IKEA for their awesome large prints. I have the big black and white Audrey Hepburn one and love it 🙂 I really like what you did with your loft!
